5 Weird Ideas That Became Successful

There are immense opportunities out there that are just waiting for you. Lets say that you have an idea that you believe in, although it might be slightly risky as the concept is somewhat "weird". Are you still ready to go for it?

Here are some slightly weird ideas that developed into successes.

Spin Pops

Bill Schlotter and Tom Coleman who were mail carriers, thought about how to make the lollipop more fun to eat. So they asked themselves, “Why not use a motor?”

This led to their discovery - a motorized lollipop stick that rotates the candy around, as it sits on your tongue. Cap Toys, Cleveland, Ohio, introduced the original Spin Pop version in 1993 and a decade later, the interactive lollipop has achieved incredible status in the industry of candy. It made success, not just because of the creativity of the idea, but also because the retail price for one lollipop was at $2.99, this was exceptional.

The first licensed Spin Pops, which were the Flintstones and Mighty Morphin Power Rangers versions, were released in 1994. Over the next six years, 60 million Spin Pops were sold.

Spinbrush

You know how one solution to a problem can evolve thousands of new problems and ideas, well the Spin Pop became the inspiration another invention.

John Osher who lead the Cap Candy company, decided to leave the company to look for new purposed that could use the spinner motor.

He and his team found out that there were electric toothbrushes in the market that cost more than 50 dollars. So they asked themselves “Why not create a $5 electric toothbrush using the Spin Pop technology?” The result that came from that questions was the Spinbrush, a top-selling toothbrush in the U.S. Four years later, Osher and his team turned a $1.5 million investment into a $475 million expend when Proctor & Gamble bought them out.

Fruit Stickles

Fruit Stickles are wooden skewers used for sticking together chunks of fruit. Except the skewers are seasoned with cinnamon and tropical fruit flavors that leach into the fruit chunks. The idea is that gives fruit an extra boost of flavor to tempt children into eating more fruit.
