Campus of Justice in Madrid, Penal Court by architect Rafael de La-Hoz. RAFAEL DE LA-HOZ ARQUITECTOS found a strong inspiration for this project on the scales, symbol of justice.

This figure formed by two hanging pans in a perfect balance and a base which hint at titration and the operation of the building, identifying two main elements.

The base of the scales has a spiral shape, strong and powerful, emerging from the ground with energy housing the premises for the central offices of justice: the courtrooms. The hanging “pans” house other rooms inside from where affairs are put on trial and justice is decided: the UPAD and the SCP.

As a whole, the volume appears as a big floating disc with a spiral inside leaving a concentric gap between them.

Definitely, a “fair” concept for a building, loyal to its principles…

Architect Rafael de La-Hoz's studio participates mostly with town planning projects and diverse architectural works in Spain and Portugal. Many of La-Hoz's projects have been accomplished through national or international architectural competitions.

RAFAEL DE LA-HOZ ARQUITECTOS was established in 1920, after two generations of architects. It has grown into a successful studio today because of their development span in their projects. From urban regeneration of city growth planning to buildings, furnishings and design.

The project teams in the studio develop the different phases that are required in a project. That is the development of plans, basic project, and execution project, they always add the management of works to therefore be able to oversee and secure that the building is loyal to its speculation, both architecturally and economically.
