The design team was challenged to create a building that exemplified the city's commitment to sustainable design while strengthening the urban fabric and providing public facilities. "Our proposal draws together two parallel ideas, one typological, and the other from the indigenous landscape of Guizhou. The project begins with the typological transformation of the Hakka/Tulou House. Drawing the intelligence of the circular courtyards, our proposal puts forth an organization that combines shared circular courtyard that binds together a series of smaller private courtyards."
