The Mersey Observation Project

The Mersey Observation Project calls for a fresh design approach. The site presents a challenging set of parameters. The windswept shore, the tide, the horizon, the vastness of the sea and the enclosure of the harbor. Not less intriguing are the programmatic connotations. A place to meet and relax, gaze out into the sea and the city as well as be informed and further one’s understanding of natural phenomena. Klab architecture believes this scheme calls for an intervention which is not so much a distinct building design but more of an architectural happening, a tectonic statement.

Rather than design a configuration of the panopticon type, where uninterrupted visibility ensures the functioning of the viewer’s power, Klab architecture proposes to perceive nature as a measure of sustainability, efficiency and evolution. To create a space where nature is not an exotic attraction but where man can become aware of the fragile and dynamic balance between the various ecosystems. Klab architecture believes this can only be achieved by approaching the design as an exercise in instigating connections and cross-reference than autonomous monumental objects.
