Extreme Housing by Singapore-based LOOK Architects Pte Ltd

Extreme housing call for extreme design strategies and ecological sensitive solutions. It can be learnt from Nature which is intrinsically vital for species survival. The pavilion’s design (designed by SLOT Studio) is born from the idea of representing Mexico through its traditional elements which haven’t been exploited in these kinds of fairs. The proposal scheme is centered around the idea of creating a green space within the expo which at the same time represents our preoccupation to offer a better life standard for cities through the recovery of green areas rather than creating a protagonist building.

The intervention area is a remaining ground of 80 ha resulting from the urban intervention of the Barajas Airport in Madrid. It is a ruling plan of the Spanish yards.
CONSTRUCTION SYSTEMS
Since the beginning of the project, the execution of the constructions in the urban area was based on one idea. It needed to be made out of biodegradable materials and also be a creation that has a low impact on the environmental CO2.
In short it’ll be an auto-sufficient space with energy autonomy and of low maintenance.
THE INTERVENTION
In the axis direction, there’s a crossing platform which is the intervention spine. It’s aiming to lodge not only the technical facilities of maintenance, but also other activities, such as restaurants, as well as the localization of all events concerning several activities such as dance, theatre, music and exhibitions, managed by an institution and an annual planning programme.

This construction by TAKAO SHIOTSUKA ATELIER is a banquet hall, along with a marriage ceremony hall, in Oita-city, Oita, Japan.
The client requested that the ceremony hall should at least be able to consist of 40 people.
The space has the appearance of a cave, where it moves down to the deep area in the center of the space. The cave appearance that TAKAO SHIOTSUKA ATELIER aimed for was to create the ideal method of a primitive building. In contrast with its cave like appearance, the building is focusing on bringing bright and having the lounge as an open space where the crowd could gather.
Since the construction was mainly constructed of concrete, it was necessary to mix the existing banquet hall with a softer approach. This was done with the help of the garden. The garden gives the emotion of a nature environment.
The construction is made as a line that flows toward the center. As a result of investigating the relationship between the garden and the actual construction, and idea was born to shape curved walls that surround the garden. This to create a sense of flow.

The Futureplex's design was supposed represent the design of future offices, though the project was unfortunately suspended in the 2001 "dot com crash", the owner has since sold the site where it was supposed to be constructed. It was an exciting project both for the attempt to create a truly urban alternative to the typical suburban office park and for the integrated, fast-track design process - construction started less than 6 months after the team were commissioned.
