The design of this architectural dwelling plan was so different from the surrounding buildings that it was submitted to an aesthetic examination by a Municipal Commission. Fortunately, they gave the plan a thumb up.
Architect and designer Setsu Ito was introduced to his current profession as his father who is a sculpture artist constantly told him about how great architecture was and brought home architecture and design books.
After 5-6 years of my experience in my great master’s studio, I felt it was time to do it myself. In 1995, when I was 31 years old the great masters helped me construct my strong backbone. And from 1997 with my partner Shinobu Ito we establish our new studio together.
Steven Holl Architects wanted to do experiments in porosity and decided to take on the Porosity project. Random porosity involves a non-linear repetition of individual components in varying scales, while recursive porosity employs mathematical strategies to generate infinitely complex patterns. Hyper is an innovative working desk with high technological features. Behind a quiet and
pure appearance it hides a special quality, it shields the user from the electromagnetic frequencies
produced by the computer.
The directional building has been designed to abstract itself from the common building scheme, rejecting analogies and mimesis, while intended to assume technology and innovation as its essence.
