Water Lily by Andreas Wenning
The strategy behind this design is nature, as trees, water and earth are the determining elements.
Architect: Andreas Wenning Baumraum
The location for the Water Lily design is a tranquil expanse of water, the shores of which are lined with trees and bushes. This small construction comprises two parts of very different character. The section of the building visible from outside stands on the shoreline. It literally rises up from the greenery and leans far out over the surface of the little lake. The façade of this dynamically shaped corpus is fitted with metal plates and oval windows.
The interior is flooded with light and contains a small kitchen, lots of storage space and a sleeping area which ›floats‹ above the water. From here, there is an enchanting view of the lake and the tree-tops through the round window. A narrow staircase leads to the second area of the building. This is concealed in the earth, barely visible, and is entirely dedicated to water and tranquillity. It contains a small sauna and relaxation area. A longitudinal ceiling opening provides daylight in this otherwise windowless space. The light falls on the pool and the large shower fixtures. The introverted and ascetic effect of this space is underlined by the use of anthracite-coloured natural stone throughout. The pool is fed by lake water. Those who want to enjoy that water directly at source can do so via an outdoor staircase.
