Discover WEATHERS’ Strategy: Design that Changes Temperature
WEATHERS is an environment focused office which strives to find new social opportunities with design. Their Climate Design™ exterior products series consist of a system that dehumidifies air in humid climates and provides heat during cooler months.
Wanderings belongs to the Climate Design™ series from the WEATHERS office. The series is commercially available for use in residential patios, gardens, public parks and landscapes with the purpose of enhancing and changing the local climate of the site. The system is elastic enough to accommodate multiple climates and geographies, dehumidifying the air in more humid climates or providing warming during the cooler months of more temperate zones. When the individual units are clustered together, the system intensifies in scope and area to create an micro-climate that provides relief from cool night temperatures and long winter months.
The benefit of this local climate augmentation is planned to increase pedestrian activity and shopping, allowing people to use these outdoor areas over a greater period of the year by expanding and creating new local seasons. In addition, the product "Wanderings" can be arranged as a public seating system that provides light and local climatic control along its surface.
About the Office
WEATHERS was established by Sean Lally who wants to embrace the potential overlap between the principles of architecture, landscape architecture and urban design. The projects of WEATHERS has ranged in scale from public installations to international buildings and urban planning proposals. As an environmental design office, WEATHERS pursue the spatial, organizational and social opportunities that the current design tools and building materials offer to influence people's daily lifestyles.
Their belief is that it's important to pursue new opportunities associated with materials traditionally relegated to either conditioning interiors or believed to be beyond our reach of control on the exterior: "that we don’t default to preconceived notions of their roles, possible responsibilities and limitations. The projects of WEATHERS seek to meet the responsibilities of architecture, yet are often born from the materialities associated with the landscape, for the construction of speculative new environments, contexts and sites previously unseen and tested."
Wanderings is one of three climate typologies currently under development at WEATHERS.
